About me:
Hello;
My name is Irek Zubko and I was born in Poland in 1960 and I have been living in Canada for the past 20 years. I have been sailing since 1977 and on different types of classes of yachts ranging from 5.5 meters to as large as 25 meters. My current profession is that I am heavily involved in electronics and on the water I take on many different roles such as helming, trimming, tactics, navigator and a weather indicator. In 1996 I was a founder for a polish Canadian yacht club and I devoted a lot of time and effort in making this club successful and my current position is the board of directors. Our club has organized a J24 team and in 2007 we have become the best J24 class in the Canadian Team. We have also been participating in international match racing events.
I participate in various types of regattas especially long distance races that seem to be my favorite. I have won a few long distance regattas around the Great Lakes such as the Lake Ontario 300 which was a double handed race at the time. For the last 6 years I was heavily involved in the J24 class and participated in many world qualifiers that were held within the Great Lakes.
I have also been involved in quite a few regattas such as the Mackinac Race in 2003 on a 40 foot yacht Shock 40 first place. Successfully placed third in the 2005 Mackinac Race on a max boats 82 foot. Raced in the Heineken regatta first place in 2006 on a Beneteau 50 and proudly to enounce that I have placed fourth in the North American championship on a Beneteau 40.7
Not only that I enjoy racing I also take pride that I have been heavily involved in a few crossing and deliveries with a 82 foot long boat named Fazisi. Between 1999 and 2005 I have accomplished approximately 7000 miles on this boat alone.
The 27th edition of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta Bareboat charter classes are always a big part of the St Martin Heineken Regatta, and this year was no different, with some 105 boats racing in six separate divisions. Bareboats 1 was taken by Canadian Irek ZUBKO aboard the Jeanneau 49, Guilt. The winner of Bareboats
